1. 2209 East Broad Street - Miles Turpin House Marker

Inscription. Commissioned in 1861, this Greek Revival was not completed until after the Civil War. Turpin owned with William Yarbrough the Turpin and Yarbrough Tobacco Co. located at 25th & Franklin which also served as the Second Alabama Hospital during the Civil War. The partners married sisters who desired identical homes in adjoining lots. The "sister" house is located at 2215 E Broad and the lots in between were once shared as the sisters' gardens. Miles turpin held the office of City Auditor until his death in 1893.
