1. William Irby Boyd Homestead ca. 1807 Marker
Inscription. In 1807 William I. Boyd of Halifax Co. VA purchased 216 Ό acres from the Robert Hay 640-acre N.C. land grant and built the present log homestead overlooking the West Harpeth River and the Natchez Trace. His log home, with its 1840 addition, is considered one of the finest original pioneer structures in the area. In 1836 W.A. Boyd inherited the farm and married Christina Wall, daughter of Edmond and Sarah Echols Wall. Of their thirteen children, three sons, William E., John Echols, and Charles W. Boyd served in the Confederate Army. W.A. Boyd expanded the farm to 532-acres, operated Boyd's Mill and the Still House Hollow distillery, built the bridge over the Harpeth River on the Nashville-Hillsboro Pike and oversaw the construction of Boyd's Mill Pike. Many members of the William I. Boyd family and their neighbors are buried in the nearby cemetery.
