Inscription. Since the 1600s, Burlingtonians have enjoyed a close relationship with the Delaware River and surrounding creeks, streams, and ponds. As much as for travel and shipping, the Delaware River presented locals and visitors ample opportunity for year-round boating, skating, hunting and fishing, even amusement park rides.
