1. Native American Three Sisters Garden Marker
Inscription. The Three Sisters were the three main agricultural crops of various Native American groups. The concept utilizes companion planting, where the three crops benefit from each other. The maize (corn) provides a structure for the beans to climb, eliminating the need for poles. The beans pull nitrogen from the air and bring it to the soil for the benefit of all three. The squash spreads long the ground, providing shade to conserve moisture and helping prevent the establishment of weeds.
