The Association of Zoos and Aquariums selected Philadelphia's own Big Cat Falls as the best new zoo or aquarium exhibit in the entire country.

Look for these key design features that helped us earn this award.

[Captions:]
An existing facility, built in the 1940s, was transformed into an impressive state-of-the-art exhibit. Reuse (rather than demolition and new construction) reflects our ongoing effort to be "green."

The Zoo supports jaguar and lion conservation projects in Mexico and Kenya. Find out more about these projects in Base Camp, where there is also an opportunity for you to contribute.

An intricate system of bridges and tunnels connects all of the outdoor habitats and the cats' indoor "bedrooms," allowing keepers to give the cats a chance to explore other cats' areas. Some days you might find the tigers in the lion habitat!

At several locations, wooden doors can roll back to expose "training panels." Here the keepers can work with the cats to show off natural behaviors and demonstrate how they train the cats to help with their own care — like receiving annual vaccinations voluntarily (for a meaty reward, of course).

"Up close and personal" views of our cats are possible through expansive glass panels. Some of our cats like getting up close

Creative use of vegetation re-creates the cats' habitats — whether forest, jungle or savanna. The tiger habitat features plants found in the Amur River Valley, native home of our Amur tigers.
