1. Water Tank House Marker

Inscription. The wooden water tank inside this building was placed on the highest point so that gravity would push water through underground pipes to the house and barn. There would then be running water in the house for toilets, tubs and sinks. Underground water would be brought into the tank by a windmill pump, water from Rock Creek would be forced into the tank using a hydraulic ram pump. The hydraulic ram was a type of vacuum system that operated using the power of the flow of the water in the creek. Drinking water came from a deep well near the house. This water tank house was moved from the Owings farm in 1999 by the Friends of the Agricultural History Farm Park.
