Inscription.
Petroglyphs are marking that are pecked, scratched, grooved or cut onto a rock surface. Two petroglygh types are present at Chitactac-Adams Heritage County Park – cupules (small cup-like depressions) and cup-and-ring forms (concentric circles with a center depression).

Archeologists and rock art specialists do not understand their exact meaning or the reasons why the prehistoric Native American people created these images here. Rock art research conducted elsewhere in California and North America associates petroglyphs with puberty rites, fertility, rain making, fishing and hunting, astronomy and spiritual ritual. How do you think these petroglyphs were used?

Under favorable lighting conditions one or more cup and ring petroglyphs can be seen on this and surrounding rock faces.
