1. Bobsled Marker

Bobsled. ❄️. This red bobsled, made of wood, was one of the many 'vehicles' used by children and adults in Mount Airy to ride down a snow-covered Main Street. The ride would begin up at Pine Grove Chapel. It would take you down South Main Street to Hood Street and beyond. A really good ride would take you over the B&O Railroad's tracks, past the Mount Air Milling Company and the train station and onto Prospect Road. When the ride was over, you would hope a car was headed back up the hill so you could ask the driver to pull you back up to Pine Grove Chapel.,
"Never rode on that bobsled but did slide down that hill many times on my own sled in the 40's. Quite a ride too if the snow was just right. You could start at the top of the hill, across the tracks, turn on Prospect Rd. till the bottom. If you could find a car going up the hill you would try to get them to pull you back to the top no fun walking back. Many great hills to sled on back in the day and not many cars to deal with. All the kids in town would be out great fun!!!"
