1978: Listed for protection under the state and federal Endangered Species Act.
1979: Only 4 successful nesting pairs in the state.
1999: 50 nests recorded in the state.
2007: 164 nests were recorded with 116 of those nests hatching at least 1 chick.
2020: 707 nests documented in the state. Bald eagles were documented as nesting in all but three of Ohio's counties.

The eagles housed here at the Columbus Zoo came from rehab facilities across the state because they can no longer survive in the wild.

Bald eagles have been spotted along the Scioto River right near the Columbus Zoo and also in various area parks around Central Ohio.
