1. Tree Kangaroo Conservation Program (TKCP) Marker
The partnership between Dr. Lisa Dabek's Tree Kangaroo Conservation Project and local landowners in Papua, New Guinea provides a model of wildlife protection for the endangered Matschie's tree kangaroo. Since 1996, TKCP and local PNG people have worked together to create a 187,000 acre protected area, the YUS Conservation Area, to safeguard the tree kangaroo and other other important wildlife.
TKCP helps local coffee growers export their coffee to the USA; profits help local families send their children to school.
TKCP works on health and education projects including education projects including scholarship programs for new teachers and trainings on family health and the environment.
TKCP employs local people including Conservation Area rangers who conduct monitoring and enforcement of the protected area.
Columbus Zoo and Aquarium has supported the Tree Kangaroo Conservation Project since its beginning and continues to support Dr. Lisa Dabek, founder and director.
