"The uplifting message of the return of the eagle is that we can rescue endangered species. May the bald eagle's strength, grace and tenacity inspire us to make the effort.
—John Sawhill, Former President of The Nature Conservancy

The bald eagle's remarkable comeback is a true American conservation success story. Once down to less than 500 nesting pairs, the bald eagle population is on the rise thanks to the banning of toxic pesticides like DDT, protection under the Endangered Species Act, and reintroduction of eagles born at zoos. Though still protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, the bald eagle is no longer listed as endangered.
