Inscription.
Because of the precarious status of their population in New Jersey, the Cape May County Zoo working with the New Jersey Division of Fish & Wildlife and Montclair State University designed a project aimed at reestablishing the salamander back into its historical range. Egg masses from establishing breeding colonies are collected in the fall and winter months (November-January) and brought to the Cape May County Zoo. The eggs will be incubated and hatched in early spring and the larvae grown in a safe, isolated hatch situated behind the Zoo's Reptile House.

Erected by Cape May County Park and Zoo.
