Inscription.
Michael Bouvier, born in 1792 in Pont-Saint-Esprit, France, fled to Philadelphia after the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. Bouvier took up cabinet and furniture making, and soon had a thriving business with rich clients. Michael then made a good fortune in land speculation. In 1828 he married Louise Vernou. One of their daughters, Emma, became the stepmother of St. Katherine Drexel, SBS. Their great grandson, John "Black Jack" Bouvier, III, a stockbroker, married heiress Janet Lee. Their daughter, Jacqueline Lee Bouvier was born at the Long Island resort of Southampton, NY on July 28, 1929. Her parents divorced when she was 10 years old. Jacqueline Bouvier first married John Fitzgerald Kennedy, who became the 35th President of these United States. After his death, she married Aristotle Onassis on October 20, 1968. On Hancock Street in this neighborhood, just west of Front Street and just north of Walnut Street is a building built by Michael Bouvier between 1824 and 1834. It was intially used for Michael's cabinet making business and then for the remanufacture of wool.

Michael Bouvier died in 1874.
