Just fifteen minutes from downtown Boston, Spectacle Island is for hiking, swimming, boating, and learning.
Stop in at a visitor center with exhibits about the history and evolution of the island and alternative energy. Go swimming on a sandy beach supervised by lifeguards—changing rooms and outdoor showers are nearby. Take in panoramic views of the harbor and city from the highest point on Boston Harbor Islands. Treat yourself to a catered evening clambake or relax on the porch listening to live music. There are many ways to experience Spectacle Island.
[Captions:]
Even with early industrial uses evident, Spectacle Island has always been a great place for recreation and harbor views.
It's hard to overlook the striking red beak of the American Oystercatcher, which makes identifying this rare bird simple on Spectacle Island's beaches.
Shells, pottery, and seaglass decorate the beach at Spectacle Island. Leave any treasures with a ranger at the visitor center for other guests to enjoy.
Take a dip at the beach on Spectacle Island. After all, Boston has one of the cleanest urban harbors in the nation.
Boaters enjoy Spectacle Island's marina.
The ocean breezes and open spaces make Spectacle Island perfect for kite flying!
