Saving American Burying Beetles
We have been searching for the American burying beetle in Missouri since 2001.

These beetles were once found in 35 states. Now they are endangered and only found in a few isolated locations.

They recycled dead animals by burying them and feeding them to their young.

Returning Rare Beetles to the Wild
Our Zoo has been raising these family-oriented beetles that care for their babies.

With our partners, we have reintroduced them back into the wild.

Our yearly studies show they are doing well and their families are growing.

How You Can Help
Be more like American burying beetles and come up with creative ways to recycle and reuse items at home, school and work.
