Juana Díaz in Municipio de Juana Díaz, Puerto Rico — The Caribbean (The West Indies)
This town square has been rebuilt as an act of affirmation to take up the historical past of this city and give it a renewed presence for the future. The remodeling has been restored as much as possible to the original design characteristics of the squares that have always accompanied the towns of Latin America.
To the rhythm of the cultural urban development of the town during the Spanish regime, the municipal council gave this place the name of Alfonso XII Recreation Square, by song in 1894 the Queen Regent, Maria Cristina of Austria, granted the port of Juana Díaz the honorable town title. This royal distinction was issued and dated in Madrid. Years later, on December 10, 1898, when the change in sovereignty occurred, this place was given the name of Roman Baldorioty de Castro, thus honoring the presence of the illustrious Puerto Rican imprisoned in this city for wanting to "make a homeland where others tried to make a colony".
Erected 1996 by Municipio de Juana Díaz, Hon. Santiago O. Martínez Irizarry, Alcalde.
