1. Three Sisters Garden Marker
Inscription. For many Native communities, three seeds produce the most important crops: corn, beans, and squash. Together, these seeds make up the Three Sisters and are a cornerstone of Native American agriculture. Native farming employs the technique of companion planting, or grouping plants that benefit each other to maximize yields and minimize work. In the Midwest, much of the farming was done by women, and sisters often farmed together. Like sisters, these three crops also work together by combining the diversity of their strengths to serve the people.
