Carleton Place in Lanark County, Ontario — Central Canada (North America)
The Town Hall Square Millennium Project
15th Day of July 2000
The Town Hall Square forms the nucleus of the pioneer development along the Mississippi River and rapids. This environmentally important area, near the unique and significant stand of Hackberry Trees, has become the central part of the Town of Carleton Place.
The story of this area began during the Ice Age, when water tumbled over the great rock foundation of the Canadian Shield. It continued with the arrival of the aboriginal peoples to the explorers of the 1600's and Scottish settlers of 1818.
We are reminded that we are but caretaker custodians of a rich legacy to be passed as a gift to the next generation, that they will give to subsequent generations. The Town Hall Square and the beauty of its surroundings is the community's gift to you.
Erected 2000 by Town of Carleton Place.
