Inscription.
Fort de La Presentation lost a considerable amount of shoreline to flooding and erosion between spring 2017 and late 2019.

Erosion has impacted the eastern side of the Van Rensselaer peninsula along the Oswegatchie river, endangering the historical aspect of the original Fort de La Pr้sentation site, established in 1749 as a mission.

A "toe wood/toe rock structure" was used for restoration. The structure began with a crew excavating the erosion site, then building a shelf on which logs or "toe wood" were set.

The logs were partially submerged in the stream bed and were then covered with smaller diameter logs, slash and brush. The logs and brush are secured in place with toe-rocks and covered with soil and plantings, including native grasses, collected from the surrounding area.

The environmental benefits of a toe-wood/rock structure include bank stabilization, increased habitat for invertebrates, small fish and game fish.
