Princess Mishawaka
The daughter of Chief Elkhart, was buried near this spot in 1818, dying at the age of thirty two.
She was a beautiful, graceful, athletic, and brave Indian maiden, the central figure in two local Indian wars. Treacherously wounded by her jealous Indian lover, she was rescued and protected by her white lover whom she married.
Our city was named in her honor.
This statue was erected as a tribute by the citizens of Mishawaka.
The Mishawaka Chapter, D. A. R. provided the large native boulder.
The monument was planned, and this tablet given, by the local Lions Club.
