Inscription.
Katie was clan grandmother of Nay'dini'aa Na' Kayax (Chickaloon Native Village) and a founder of the Ya Ne Dah Ah School, the first Tribal school in Alaska. She taught Ahtna language and culture including, songs, dances, beading, and Ahtna values including the importance of family and community. She wrote a book about growing up in the Matanuska River watershed called, Chickaloon Spirit: The Life and Times of Katherine Wickersham Wade. For the Park exhibits, Katie generously contributed personal items for local history displays. Katie was very knowledgeable about local plant uses for food and medicine and she enjoyed creating beautiful and elaborate flower gardens. This garden of indigenous plants is dedicated to her with much gratitude.
