Jardin Martha Desrumaux (2019)
This 4823m² park, built in the heart of the former Reuilly barracks, is designed as a vast open space dominated by plants with a large central lawn. The plants are related to each other through a play of scale and species, creating differentiated situations and places in a general harmony. It offers possibilities for varied uses combining playfulness with relaxation and contemplation. The perfume and flower gardens delight the senses of the walker. The plant palette, conducive to biodiversity, is composed of multiple plants such as Chinese lilac, European spindle tree, and rowan.
The park is dedicated to Martha Desrumaux (1897-1982). A textile worker who became involved in the union struggle at an early age, she led the Popular Front in the North in 1936. A member of the Resistance who was arrested in 1941 and deported in 1942, she distinguished herself alongside Geneviève de Gaulle-Anthonioz and Marie-Claude Vaillant-Couturier. An elected communist from the North, a representative of the deportees and a feminist activist, her actions contributed to the development of the values of our society.
