Inscription.
This area was planted with a native prairie seed mix. It is currently growing and will take 23 years to fully mature. During this time, Toledo Zoo conservation staff will0 diligently marrage invasive species and add plants as needed. We appreciate your patience and understanding U during this transformation.

Prairies historically occurred throughout northwest Ohio and provided numerous ecological benefits. Each prairie plant has a root system up to 18 inches deep, which allows the plant to survive seasonal drought reduce storm water runoff, remove harmful nutrients before they reach bodies of water and sequester carbon dioxide from the air, Native plants also provide food and habitat for local wildlife, including pollinators like Monarch butterflies.
