1. The Colored Fair marker
Inscription. Located 1/4 mile south of here is the site of the Summer County Colored Fair, purported to be the first African American owned agricultural fairground. It was purchased in July 1870 by Mack Randolph, Arthur Banks, Willie Baker, Dock Blythe, John Banks, Henry Ward and others for $650. The Summer County Colored Agricultural Fair Association conceived, promoted, managed and owned this widely acclaimed annual event. The fair closed in 1976. In 1998 the land was sold.
