Congdon Park in Duluth in Saint Louis County, Minnesota — The American Midwest (Upper Plains)
Tischer Creek
| | Glensheen Historic Estate | |
At one time, the waters of Tischer Creek were diverted upstream into a 60,000-gallon reservoir built between Superior Street and London Road. From there, it was piped via a private water main to 20-plus spigots for estate use.
On the west bank of Tischer, just across London Road, there was once a thriving small orchard.
Today Tischer Creek is now a designated trout stream. With a keen eye and a little luck, you may glimpse Rainbow trout. These members of the Salmon family are also called Steelheads for their silvery shimmer under the water.

Excerpt: Located along Tischer Creek in the neighborhood that is named for it, Congdon Park features some of the most pristine hiking trails in Duluth, including beautiful bridges and stunning waterfalls. It was developed in 1908 on land donated by Chester Congdon, who was then building his Glensheen estate. The creek runs through the property, and he gave Duluth the park land and paid for its development on the condition that the city would stop using the creek as an open sewer.(Submitted on February 19, 2025, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)
