1. Meet The Yew Marker
Meet the oldest living tree species in Europe, the yew. This tree grows extremely slowly, at half the rate of most other tree species.
Yews, like humans, have a gender. A male and a female tree are needed to produce a red berry like fruit called an aril.
But be warned, all parts of the yew are poisonous to humans and most animals. Despite this, yew trees are now grown to extract their poison, which is used to treat cancer.

In medieval times, yew trees were planted near churchyards. The evergreen yew was a symbol of immortality. It is thought that yew trees were planted on graves of plague victims to protect and purify the dead and to stop cattle grazing on church grounds.
