Look around you. You can see that many of the beds are planted in large blocks of colour. In the 1950s, when the car was king, the NCC pioneered a new style of massed plantings best viewed from the comfort of a passing automobile. Today, many of the beds are still designed with bold splashes of colour but, up-close, more subtle variations in shade and shape can be seen.
