Clason Point in the Bronx in Bronx County, New York — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
Agustin "Gus" Dinolis
Agustin "Gus" Dinolis' Bronx roots run deep. As a young boy, he and his family migrated from Panama to the South Bronx in the 1960s.
When Gus moved to Clason Point nearly 30 years ago, he immediately noticed that the abandoned log was a community eyesore and filled with garbage. Gus jumped right into action, and he began to clean out the vacant lot, showcasing his dedication to the community with the help of his brothers. Soon, as the change agent he was, his neighbors joined in, and with additional assistance from NYC Parks Green Thumb, the Bronx Botanical Garden, the Bronx Zoo, and elected officials, it is now what we know as "The Waterfront Garden." It's a glowing oasis, a "hidden gem," that has a beautiful view of the Whitestone Bridge and the Long Island Sound.
We know Gus to be a man of dedication and action, in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy in 2012 he lent a helping had to neighbors to use his generator. He also drove up to Connecticut to buy gasoline for neighbor's. Gus consistently made a difference in the lives of all those who had the unique opportunity of crossing his path. He is survived by two daughters, three grandchildren, a great-granddaughter, two brothers, and a beautiful extended family.
