Decumano e Rete Viaria, also, Decamanus and Road Network. . La viabilità principale della città era costituita dal Decumano e dal Cardine, che si incrociavano in corrispondenza del Foro. Il primo era il tratto urbano della Via Ostiense che, correndo in direzione est-ovest, si dirigeva verso il mare piegando leggermente a sud. Il Cardine corrispondeva nel tratto meridionale al tracciato urbano della più antica Via Laurentina; il tratto settentrionale, creato ex novo, raggiungeva la sponda del Tevere. Si dirigevano verso il fiume anche altri percorsi, come Via della Foce e la Semita (o sentiero) dei Cippi, importanti a scopi commerciali. Molti dei più importanti assi viari cittadini si impostavano su più antichi percorsi, a cui si deve l'irregolarità negli orientamenti dei diversi quartieri. Many of the city's major streets were built over more ancient routes, thus explaining the irregular orientation of the various districts. There was also a dense network of smaller lanes.
