Patty Birkholz (1944-2018)
Patty was a passionate conservationist, state legislator, and local leader. Patty dedicated her life to conserving and honoring the natural resources of Michigan with a zeal for protecting our waters, our dunes and our state parks. As a legislator, Patty reminded us of the importance of being true to the Michigan Constitutional charge that requires that "the legislature shall protect the natural resources from pollution, impairment and destruction." This area stands as a testament to Patty's legacy of love and commitment to Michigan; the Great Lakes and the Dunes, for current and future generations.
