1. Harriet Tubman Marker
Inscription. Harriet Tubman self-liberated in 1849. Returning about 13 times to lead around 70 enslaved people to freedom. Serving the Union Army gathering reconnaissance intelligence, she became the first woman to lead a military operation, the Combahee River Raid, freeing over 750 people. Settling in Auburn, New York, Tubman provided housing for the homeless, infirmed and elderly, champion racial and gender equality, leaving an enduring legacy of service to humanity.
