The famous Shawnee Village destroyed four times by pioneer forces. It remained Ohio's leading Indian Town until 1807. On the rise to the west stood the bark Council House.

More about this marker. This marker was originally located at 39° 43.722′ N, 83° 56.222′ W. It was roadside, in front of the Tecumseh Motel. The motel was purchased by the state and razed to make way for the Great Council State Park visitors center, which opened in 2024. This marker was refurbished and remounted, and is now located behind the visitor's center.

4. Explanatory plaque for Site of Old Chillicothe Marker
This explanatory update was added in 2024 and sits to the left of the marker. It reads:
This unique marker is cast in metal and depicts a Shawnee council house on the top. This marker states that the Shawnee village existed here until 1807. However, the historical record indicates the village may have only existed until 1780.

5. 2008 Location of Old Chillicothe Marker
This marker is visible in the center of the five marker grouping at the motel. It on its two white poles is behind and to the right of the Motel Entrance sign. The motel was torn down to make way for the Great Council State Park visitors center that opened in 2024, behind which this marker now stands.
