The Power of Outdoor Green Spaces
Science confirms that being outside in green spaces improves our mental and physical health. The Chesapeake Bay Trust supports outdoor green spaces at schools for students to learn outside, at hospitals for patients to heal outside, at workplaces for employees to take breaks outside, and throughout our communities, helping people connect with nature. We encourage our own staff to do the same right here at our Green Headquarters, where this outdoor space is designed for reflection, collaboration, and a breath of fresh air.

In 2025, we dedicate this outdoor gathering space to Chesapeake Bay Trust staff member Heather Adams in honor of her 20 years of service. Heather has been at the heart of our organization since 2005. She is a mentor and a problem solver: She reminds us to think things through, see all sides, and never lose our curiosity. Without her, the Chesapeake Bay Trust wouldn't be where we are, both figuratively and literally: Heather is the one who found this office location and had the "Green Headquarters" vision for the Bay Trust in 2018.

We name this space "Heather's Hangout" to celebrate her role in always bringing people together - whether to tackle a challenge or share a laugh.
