The Buffalo Trail

1. The Buffalo Trail Marker
For several miles along these hills the improved road is built upon or within sight of the historical buffalo trail of the years prior to 1790. This trail was used by Gen. William Henry Harrison, Gen. John Tipton, Gen. John Gibson, Gen. Z.M. Pike, Gen. Rufus Putnam, Col. Aaron Burr, Col. Francis Vigo, Gen. W. Johnston, Editor Elihu Stout, Capt. Toussaint Dubois, and many other distinguished men. The trail was made by the buffaloes, followed by the Indians, French, English, and Americans. The great seal of Indiana shows the trees, hills, buffalo and pioneer. Along this trail came our local pioneers-Mcdonald, Harrison, Edmonston, Sherritt, Stewart, Hope, Kelso, Niblack, Lemmon, Hays, Morgan, Conrad and others.
On the hill is the grave of James Harbison a soldier of the American Revolution.
