Santa Rosa Community, circa 1948. . , The settlement of Santa Rosa was named so in the 1950s. It housed smelter workers and other families and boasted a rich Latino flair. Torn down in the early 1970s to make way for the expansion of highway 550/160 and later a city park, the community still occupies a fond place in the memories of many Durangoans. In 2002, the city park's name was changed from Gateway to Santa Rita Park in order to commemorate and honor the former village. , Most likely dressed up for the Fiesta Parade, this fellow looks every bit the singing Vaquero (cowboy). Fiesta was a multicultural event, drawing Utes, Latinos and whites together in celebration of agriculture and community, and in its day was the seminal event of the year. , The Moments Project is a conceptual public sculpture by Shan Wells, designed to preserve the cultural heritage of Durango, and to make visible the movement of time.
