Regarding These Ledgers. George Read was the great-great-grandfather of George Washington and a prominent political administrator, first as assistant to Royal Governor
John Harvey and later to Francis Wyatt. Among his descendants are other notables, including Meriwether Lewis, Thomas Nelson, Jr., General George S. Patton, Jr., and Queen Elizabeth II.
