1. American Fringe Marker
Inscription.
The American Fringe (Chionanthus virginicus) is a spring tree. It gets its name from the clouds or fleecy white, softly, fragrant flowers that hand from its branches. The American Fringe is a small tree, growing no more than 36 feet tall. It has scaly, brownish-red bark which was used by Native Americans to treat skin inflammations, sores and wounds.
 
Erected 1975 by the City of Roanoke with landscape planting by Magic City Garden Club.
