What is H2Ohio?
Initiated in 2019 by Governor Mike DeWine, H2Ohio is a comprehensive plan to improve water quality throughout Ohio.
Why Wetlands?
Wetlands act as natural filters that hold and clean large amounts of water. They help reduce harmful algal blooms to keep our water clean and safe.
Ohio's Wetland Heritage
Wetlands were once common in many areas of Ohio. Northwestern Ohio was once home to the Great Black Swamp that covered an area about the size of Rhode Island. Indigenous peoples hunted and fished this region for thousands of years. Once European settlers arrived, they Grained wetlands for farming and to harvest timber.
