Belvoir
This tobacco plantation wasbuilt ca. 1736 by John Ross and owned by the Scotts, Worthingtons, and Welshes. On September 17, 1781, Comte de Rochambeau camped here en route to Yorktown, VA during the American Revolution. Many enslaved Black families lived here. Some purchased their freedom, like the Burleys, or left-through self-liberation. Cinderella Brogden escaped Belvoir with the help of her free husband, Abraham, in 1848.
