Trumpeter swans were nearly driven to extinction in the early 20th century but due to conservation efforts their population has rebounded.
Threats to the trumpeter swan still exist in the form of lead pollution, habitat loss, power lines, and illegal hunting.
In 1996 the Ohio Division of Wildlife worked with Ohio zoos and the Wilds to reintroduce trumpeter swans are still considered "threatened" in Ohio.
This species is found in scattered northern and southeastern sections of Ohio.
Range:
Southern Alaska, northern Rocky Mountains, Great Plains and the Midwest United States.
