1. The Great Trail Marker
Inscription.
Minquas or Susquehanna Indians Susquehanna to the Schuylkill crossed Ridley Creek at Long Point 484 yards to the south. Thousands of beaver skins yearly were carried down to the first Dutch and Swedish Settlers on the Delaware.
 
Erected 1926 by The Pennsylvania Historical Commission and the Borough of Rose Valley.

1. The Great Minquas Path:
The Great Minquas Path was a 17th-century trade route or Beaver Road that ran through southeastern Pennsylvania. It starts on the Susquehanna River, near both Peach Bottom and Conestoga, on the Conestoga creek and continues east through the towns of Gap and West Chester, in Chester County. And then continues through the Rose Valley in Delaware County to the Schuylkill River,

opposite Philadelphia. The 80-mile east-west trail was the primary route for fur trading with the Minquas or Susquehannock people with the Dutch, Swedish and English settlements. Those several settlers all fought one another for the control of this “Beaversrede” – Beaver Road.

The Rose Valley Borough is offering a $5,000 reward for the recovery of this bronze beaver statue and historical plaque that was stolen on Monday, April 5th.
