Not much physical evidence remains of Fort Edward today, but traces of the moat of the fort built over 250 years ago are still visible today.

5. Site of Fort Edward
Fort Edward was built in 1755 in a wilderness area that the Indians called the "Great Carrying Place" due to the fact that they had to carry their canoes overland from the Hudson River to Lake Champlain. The site of the fort is just west of the Old Moat marker.
