Thompson Island is the hub of youth education at Boston Harbor Islands. Thompson Island's Outward Bound programs inspire character development and academic achievement through challenging experiential learning. Schools, youth organizations, and families bring young people to the island.
Activities include environmental education, outdoor challenge courses, sailing, sea kayaking, and community service. Corporate outings, retreats, social events, and teambuilding for professionals help support youth programs.

Since the Boston Farm School opened on Thompson Island in 1833, the island's core purpose has been the education of Boston's youth.
Park rangers measure salinity as part of research about the islands' plants and animals.
Thompson Island's educational campus has classrooms, dormitories, and meeting rooms, plus a dining hall and gymnasium.
Outward Bound's challenging transformational programs highlight self inquiry and connection to nature.
Students become "citizen scientists" while exploring the Thompson Island salt marsh ecosystem.
"I climbed the Alpine Tower!" The tower encourages team-building, leadership skills, and self-confidence.
