1891
The Barn is constructed and houses a variety of animals, including the Park's work animals.
1975
The rear of the Barn is used as a holding area for the Providence Police Department's police dogs.
1986
The Barn is converted into the Zoo's base of operations and dedicated to Sophie Danforth, founder of the Rhode Island Zoological Society. It becomes home to the Zoo's administrative offices, and veterinary hospital.
2011
With the opening of the new state-of-the-art John Palumbo Veterinary Hospital elsewhere on Zoo grounds, the former veterinary hospital space in the Barn's basement is repurposed to house the Zoo's education program animals.
