Inscription. In 1883, the famous Cree Chief Piapot came into conflict with the CPR in this vicinity. He and his people camped in the middle of the projected right-of-way and refused to move. Construction was held up for some time until the Crees were persuaded to break camp by two mounted policemen who had boldly ridden into the hostile encampment. Shortly after this incident, Piapot and his people moved to the reserve they had been allotted in the Qu'Appelle Valley.

Erected 1965 by Government of Saskatchewan.
