About 1,000 markers were made from metal salvaged from the U.S.S. Maine and distributed throughout the country. This series also includes other remnants from the battleship that became the rallying cry in the Spanish-American War. The sculptor of the monument was Charles Keck and they were made at the Jonathan Williams Foundry. Non-remnant markers related to the U.S.S. Maine are included as well.
